First established in 1914 as a mission church, St. Philip's was one of seven congregations founded for African-Americans in the Diocese of Upper South Carolina. St. Philip’s is known as the “Miracle Church” when in 2002 the congregation with the support of the Diocese of Upper South Carolina began the construction of a new sanctuary based on the Habitat for Humanity premise. Many local churches, especially the Episcopal churches, participated in the building of the church. Click here to view an article about St. Philip's journey in Episcopal Life. |
